Anyone got a Grolman Device? I came across one cleaning the other day. What a contraption.

Jim, I still have mine, still in the box, did use it some in 1977.....
Here's what it looks like for those who have not seen one. File size is 54k jpeg. It was used for determining the fitting cross position for PAL fits.
On top of the Grolman box is a device from Precision Cosmet Co. called "PD Light and Meter". Anyone have the instruction manual? I'll trade you the Grolman fitting system for it (I have two believe it or not!).
Thanks
Robert
I keep mine in a glass showcase as a reminder of just how silly people in the optical community can be.
The only time I ever used it was to be certified (now, there was a joke) to fit Ultavues.......I quickly switched to a penlight, a piece of scotch tape and a pen!:bbg:

Reading this reminded me of the greatness of Bernie Grolman. He invented the non-contact tonometer.Bernie was killed as he crossed the road from the Reichert Headquarters in December 02
May he rest in peace
The Grohlman device really brought home the concept of monocular pupilary positions, with it's Ph, and Pv. just part of the learning curve...today we use an "eyeweb" system that utilizes digital video to measure monocular positions to 0.10mm. pretty amazing new technologies...

I went to Chicago to learn how to grind Ultravues and get our lab "certified" to process. My boss (Tom Sloan) said he felt certified when he signed the check for the inventory. That was my first trip as a young whipper snapper lab person.
Thanks to all who posted here. I had hoped to get some responses, but you guys came through with a lot more. Hats off to you ang Mr. Grolman. Rest in peace Mr. Grolman.
