    Lightbulb British Optician in Dilema

    Can anyone advise me please?

    I am a bit confused..

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Are British qualifications accepted in USA? (FBDO).

    2. If I settle in USA how is the salary structure for an OPTICIAN?

    3. Can anyone own an Optical/Optometry store in USA?

    4. Where can I find information on practice sales?

I shall be most grateful for any advise that I can receive.
I have fallen in "LOVE" with America and wish to setle there.
You can e mail me privately as well.
    Thanks.
    Ed

Not sure on the other 3 but sorry our qualifications dont mean a thing state side....
On the up side you will be able to call yourself a OPTICIAN if you do move over there and work in the optical trade....Just like everybody else does..

TSK TSK John..:) .. It depends on what State you move to in the U.S on what you can and can not call yourself.. we like to make it as complicated as possible you know. Say you came to Florida, if you called yourself an optician in this State and did not have your ABO/NCLE as well as your State Opt. Lic. than you my friend just commited a FELONY and can be arrested and or fined..But say you go to Texas (a non lic. state) you can pretty much do whatever you like, call yourself King of optics :)
First thing I would do is check the State guidelines on the web for what State anyone maybe moving to... Some States here require nothing at all and you can open up an optical (NO refracting though in any of the 50 states) In some States you can refract under the supervision of an OD or OMD.. while others once you get the "Lic." you can NOT refract under any conditions..how is that for keeping things confusing
The first step is to find the web site for the state anyone is interested into moving that deals with the Lic., if it is a Lic. State there will be a contact where you can place questions...
The key to optics here in the ole U.S.A. is lets see how confusing we can make the rules from state to state ...:hammer:
