She needs prism for distance but not near and has worn a ft28 right eye only successfully to suppress the diplopia but prefers less noticeable shelf and head turning.

So she wants the right seg offset about 10mm to see dashboard GPS with minimal head turning.

Horoptor? Isn’t that with binocular vision? I thought we’ve been talking monocular vision (more than likely habituated) and suppression.

With the above info/request I’ll stick with my 2cents/posts.

I suspect she has a divergence insufficiency (8^ isn't a whole lot but with eso, it's touchy). Depending on how bad it is, she could fuse at near ("Doctor said didn't need prism") (but then why would she need a penalization lens?) or she has diplopia at near (then why isn't prism helpful?).

    So we need more information.

Binocular vision is ALWAYS the case, except for a blind eye for actual, factual "monocular vision". Otherwise it's just our sloppy conventional language. People aren't truly "monocular" even with bad binocular vision. Hence the discussion of usable peripheral vision. So the horoptor applies. But it's only for whomever has interest in this stuff.

"Why are we debating this? Because that DANG FESTER brought up Franklin bifocals and made us think he's trying to get different prism at near. Maybe he's not even saying that. Maybe he's responsible for this big messy thread."

Can the OC's be manipulated to make this work?

She is not cost averse to a custom Franklin which leaves me scratching my head as to a flat top shelf being noticeable- but whatever.

And that begs the question is any lab out there doing Franklin's and am I correct that this can only be done with a metal frame?
So this pair would be strictly for driving is the current direction of where we are headed.

As regards to drk's dreaded horoptor- I'm a Libra fwiw.

Horopters measure the amount of Horus in lenses. You can get ahoric lenses, but I find they have a lot of Ra in them then

Not sure I would agree with this. Unwanted prism or prismatic imbalance can and does impact eye tracking and therefore depth perception. I would think this is not good, for in all cases, for golfers.

What kind of prismatic imbalance is there going to be when using a round seg in only one eye?
