    PAL ID Database

Does anyone have a resource of PAL markings? I have been using one from thevisioncouncil but quite often I run into lenses I have never seen before. Even just to know who manufactured it would be enough then I could call the appropriate lab.

In today's world of freeform lenses and private labeling, PAL identifiers are going the way of the dinosaur.

understandable.. follow up question then.. How important is the drop? Is there a way to figure it out without knowing what the product is?

Maybe somewhere? But I would say unlikely. IOT are all 4 drop, Crossbows look like they are all 4 drop. Zeiss and Seiko are the only ones I know of that are not 4 drop.

I honestly didn't think of Nikon as it is not really prevalent in the US. But looking at the Vision Council/OLA identifier they do seem to be a 2 drop. I don't think I have ever seen a Nikon lens come through my door.

Why do you need to call the lab that made the lenses?

I received a pair of glasses and was told to duplicate the height by the Optician

Ha. Tell the "optician" to do their own damn job. I know you can't say that. But you should try to politely tell them that you can't, so they stop sending you things like this. Send the frame back them and tell them to measure it on the patient.

Duplicate the height... gtfo, how lazy can you be?

If someone comes in with a progressive lens that they want to duplicate but we didn't make it, I would dot it up and draw on the layout in one color. Then put it on their face and mark mid pupil with another color. Hopefully they are the same.
