    Polishing Glass lenses?

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice in terms of polishing glass lenses. I've a lot of experience hand-polishing plastic but haven't ever done glass.

I've been working on a -24 and despite perfect frame selection obviously there is a bit of thickness there... I'd like to make it transparent. Can it be done? Should it be attempted?

    Thanks,

I assume you are talking about edge polishing. It surely can be done but I don’t recommend it the reflection caused by the thickness will be extremely annoying to the patient. If you have access to a Dremel variable speed grinder. Use a 1 inch diameter 1/4 inch thick felt pad. You will need cerium oxide as the polishing agent. Make a thick paste apply to the pad and start with a slow speed and increase with caution as the heat can crack the lens.
