I was just curious. In the state of Massachusetts, can a certified optician own his/her own practice without a state license as long as they have an OD on premise at all times?

Even if you aren't licensed, I would think as long as you have an OD on staff or hire a licensed optician you would be fine. I know in other states, having the OD on staff, regardless if they're there or not, is what matters most. If not, then you have to have a licensed optician on the premises at all times. But either would give you coverage to own the practice
This is Massachusetts.
Talk to a lawyer.
Better still get your license.
fwiw I think it's the OD who should be most concerned.
My friend concurs this would be a shade of gray in professional licensing law that MA is famous for and should be reviewed by a lawyer.

At least in my neck of the woods inspectors stop by once or twice a year and verify both OD's and Opticians are licensed.
fwiw Multi story buildings in Boston are inspected every 5 years for recertification so a Carolina* tragedy is very unlikely.
The State and cities make fees high enough to pay for this and leave a little something extra if you know what I mean.
