    Reducing edge thickness by hand

    Hello,

Does anyone reduce edge thickness of a high minus lens using the hand stone after edging the lenses in a machine?

We had someone come in today a lab tech and he shaved off about 2mm using the hand stone, I was amazed by this.

Is there a video on how to do this step by step?

Remember that you are in effect producing a mini-lenticular, which will help the looks when viewed from the side, but harm the looks when viewed face on by introducing an obvious ring effect. Ask your lab for a heavy roll and polish, it's kinda the same thing.

Just sounds like the roll part of a roll and polish. I wouldn't do it except in really extreme cases.

Meh. I'm a -9.50 and I'd never want it. Nor edge polish. YMMV.

I only do a roll as necessary (around NP arms if needed). I hate the ring and think that the roll with polish adds horrible glare. It's easy to add it, but can't be removed. If a patient mentions a roll and polish I usually tell them to wait and see how it is first and it they then want it, we can add it. Most agree with me. BTW... I don't like a white edge either. Satin finish edges is the way to go.

100%. If the only way to make a frame and RX to work cosmetically is to add a roll and polish, try to find a better frame.
