    Quickie PAL opinions?

Pt: Male, 51 y.o., has tried PALS in the past, but didn't love, and is used to no SRx @dist. Heavy computer use, with a wide working area. He is very lightly amblyopic OS

    +1.25 -0.50 085
    +3.50 -0.25 120
    Add +1.75

Seg in chosen frame is 19.5

This is a VSP job, and limited to their options. Spent a good amount of time discussing options, strengths and weaknesses of PAL designs, and the fact that he would ideally like a single lens to do as much as possible. Hoping to avoid a second pair if it can be helped with a good PAL design, but it's not off the table. Suggestions for your fav design of choice in this scenario?

I was thinking of (in no particular order):
Seiko Surmount 12, Autograph Intelligence, or Auto III. Hoya isn't on the table as he has tried 2 of their designs but both were "awful". Hoping for the Hail Mary pass, and wanting to really nail it down for him this time.

    Your thoughts?

    Thanks all!

    A mess.

With the aniso, you'd want a short corridor for general purpose use, but they're swimmy and certainly a fail on a computer.

But man, if a 50 year old is +1.00 uncorrected in the distance in his good eye (!), he's probably one of those "ruggedy types" and not one of those persnicketty myope types. Probably drives a truck.

What I'd do is go with an office design. With a measly +1.75 add and considering just his distance correction alone on the computer should seem like heaven to him, I'd do a minor overplus...say, +0.50...Zeiss' Desk or even Room would do a dam good job on this one, or Shamir Workspace.

Let him remove them to drive. He will, anyway!

No idea what he drives - but this is Utah after all, so a pickem up truck is a high probability by default. :) He certainly didn't come off as overly persnickity, so I'm hoping that plays to our favor here. He was pretty highly motivated to continue working with a traditional PAL in this instance, and so we went with the Surmount 12 to start. His VSP will allow us to make a change in the short term if it's needed, and if that's where we end up, I'll definitely keep the Office design in my back pocket.

True on the shorter corridor. Less true re: swimmy with today’s advanced and optimized free form designs, this is far less true.

I would go with something like a IOT Alpha H45 16. I think VSP uses that as one of their Unity lenses.
