    Prism Segment Lens?

Have a patient with the following RX, that we fitted for FT28:

    OD: +0.25-0.50x160 4.50BO 4.00BU
    OS: +0.50 sph 4.50BO 4.00 BD
    +2.25 Add

He can see fine through the distance but he still experiences double vision while reading.
The doctor rechecked prism at the near and got OD: 1.25 BO 1.50 BU OS: 1.00 BO 1.25 BD
He is suggesting either Prism Segment lens or Franklin Bifocal, but I have never dispensed either.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for this RX? Also, any suggestions on labs that can do prism segments or franklins? I have only found Slabsplus or Epic Labs through my googling.

I think the Doc should recheck his findings. It does not seem possible for the prism to be that much different in the reading portion.

    What was the previous rx?

    First time bifocals?

Is the double vision vertical or horizontal?

    Alex,

Epic has never let me down, but it has been about two years since they have done work for me (through Walman).

Does it have to be a multifocal, maybe for occupational reasons? If not, consider multifocals for distance, closing one eye to see a mobile phone, glancing at other near objects, etc., then supply SVNO for reading. Or two pair of multifocals, one pair optimized prism-wise for near, the other for distance, or SVDO and SVNO.

    Hope this helps,
