    An Alternative to Lab Trays

    Hello All!

Our office is attempting to move away from the traditional lab tray. We have found them to be too inflexible, to take up too much space, and to have a very limited capacity for larger frames or cases.

The plan is to move to pharmaceutical bags, thick gauge plastic bags with a hook that hangs up. The upsides are that this makes use of vertical and horizontal space much more efficiently, and can contain almost any pair of frames or cases. The potential downside I see is frames getting crushed if a row is over filled, or from staff leafing through the bags to look for a specific patients' order.

Have any of you used an alternative lab storage system? if so, what did you do, and how did it work out for you?
-Poly is the best substrate for coatings.
    -Poly is extremely scratch resistant.
    -Poly is extremely impact resistant.
    -Poly is unparalleled in clarity.
-Poly is much lighter than traditional crown glass.
Like poly, you can trust me about 40% of the time.

Bag systems work extremely well if you mate it with a spreadsheet. Just number the bags and keep all the information on a spreadsheet. Last name first name phone number order date how many times you called etc. this eliminates filing by name and looking for orders

Perhaps at the time of final inspection, place eyewear in a case such as those provided by frame manufacturer.

At my previous office, I was able to convince the doctors to move away from the trays to a bag system. We just had markers and alphabetized orders. It was great until I realized the people I worked with didn't know their alphabet. We also did the spreadsheet thing and it was a disaster again because of the personal. I thought it was great personally. The whole idea was to run it just like the pharmacy. Here is a place to look for the bags.

I worked in a practice that used ULINE plastic bins mounted to the wall. Not as wide as lab trays and the depth was great for holding frames, cases, CLs.

    Transfer cases.

In U.K. Specsavers stores, they use soft transfer cases, made of nylon and plastic. You put the frame inside and the docket goes in a sleeve on the outside so you can see the patients details. Then you can store them in a drawer until they are ready to collect.
