    Are Designers are going mad?

Fendi FF 0198/F Asian Fit KB7 Glasses Grey | SmartBuyGlasses UK

The Frame in the link is an Optyl with flat metal plate screwed to the front obviously there are holes in the material
Is just me or is this a stupid design ?

The only way to glaze is to gently squeeze in the lenses and they will have to be a low power

(The Client bought them from TK Maxx which is a designer outlet they sell everything)

Nothing new here. Frame "designers" completely parted ways with opticians, or any understanding that frames must function as a proper optical medical device decades ago.

But hey, it sure looks nice and sparkly on the pages of designer magazines and splashy catalog pages! Quality of vision, durability, and function are more or less completely dead - particularly in anything even remotely "designer" brand wise. All the more reason to dump the house brands, and stick with lines that know how to actually craft frames that function first, in addition to looking good.

That is a very odd design. I don't think I've seen anything like that before. The metal plate is really what makes it such an ugly situation.

I agree with Uilleann. Once companies started making rectangular, sharp angled frames with large eye sizes the days of lenses being "proper optical medical device" was very much over.

If you've ever met one, you would know they are fully insane.

    Sometimes in a good way.

I dread when patients bring in "designer" frames from TJ Maxx (the American counterpart of TK Maxx).

I've fit lenses in a frame like that before, I just trace the demo lenses and cold insert.

If I remember correctly you must edge the lenses oversized and really heat Optyl. Otherwise the lenses will be loose before too long. Optyl returns to its original shape with heat which seems like it may cause issues with the metal plate screwed to the front. I think I would try inserting the lenses from the inside on that one. Every year frame fenders try to put a new twist on eyewear and opticians find out their short comings the hard way. Best of luck with it!
