    Trivex

Why is there no longer any choice at Essilor for clear Trivex FT 28 or 35? It is available in Transition but not clear.

Supply chain disruptions, raw material shortages, etc.

Lots of Trivex shortage globally is my understanding, not just E. Still some bumps with various flavors of high index as well as I understand it, but Trivex is the worst right now.

I just ordered a FT 28 Trivex Trans and was told by my lab (independent not Essilor lab) that it was in stock and that they just got a shipment. I had them set aside 2 pair just in case of breakage because I was unsure of them staying in stock. The only thing I can say is maybe call before you place the order so you can discuss alternative options with your patient. I was all set to do a digital round for this lady due to BO and then I was told it was available. I prepared the patient about the backorder and in the end we were able to get the FT so she was extra happy.

Are you 100% sure its Transitions Trivex and not the Younger poly/trivex laminated abomination?

I love those, especially when the delaminate for the 4th time and the fight with the lab to fix is just so much fun.

Definitely sure. I called and clarified with our lab (to make sure I wasn't just crazy) ... they have a ton of FT 28 Trivex lenses and have several vendors they can get them from. (Hoya, Younger, X-cel) The exception being 7x28 Trivex Transitions which they said is horrible right now. Also... They know that the Younger poly/trivex transitions have issues and prefer to not use them.... They classify them as poly trans and not trivex trans. Perhaps the problems are just Essilor labs?

I think the specific problem has been Flat Tops. I'm guessing they were able to use SV blanks for your PAL orders. A blessing.
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?

Oh the dreaded Composite lens... yup just went through 3 redos with this lens on a groove. It was my only option because of needing XtraActive on a flat top. It was a patient owned groove so there was no wiggle room for restyling. I HAD talked him out of glass so it wasn't a good feeling on my end that he needed redos for delam but there was no way he was getting an Xtra FT in a groove frame in glass!

I was just informed by Luxottica lab that Trivex is on a BO 1-3 months is what I was told. They told me my options for a specific job was CR-39, poly, 1.67. I think this problem might be around longer than we think
