    Star Trails over Kodachrome Basin

Just over 4 hours exposure resulted in some fun and colorful star trails, centered on "Ballerina Spire" in southern Utah's Kodachrome Basin State Park. 5 meteors made appearances as well during the exposures. If you have a chance to visit Utah and any of it's more remote State and National parks on a clear and moonless night, the stars will not fail to amaze!

Very cool shot. I don't have the patience to do star trails like that. Have you shot up at Bryce Canyon yet? The Milky Way is the brightest I've ever seen it.

These are misleading as I was able to hike back to the car and nap for 4 hours, then wake up and go retrieve my gear. It almost felt like cheating. *Almost*. hehehe It's the hours of post processing that get me with these shots. But I do really like the results. Kodachrome is about another hour east and south of Bryce. Smaller for sure, but FAR less crowded. Similar formations, with the same dark dark desert skies. And some KILLER BBQ to be found just up the road in Tropic. Come visit sometime, and I'll show you some of my favorite dark sky spots! :)
