    Material Bottleneck

Is anybody else having trouble ordering jobs in trivex? Our labs have been having almost everything on backorder, and we've been having to put people in hi index, even if the rx doesn't necessarily call for it. Is the material on back order at every lab?

Oh no!! I have not run into this yet with my lab but it's good to have a heads-up if it is coming my way.
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?

Can I ask which lab you use? Seeing as there may be a shortage, I wouldn't blame you if you kept that info to yourself.

Yeah I just got the call from the lab today almost immediately after reading this post LOL! No Trivex bifocals or trifocals for 3 months... The lab person said we can swap them into high index instead of poly and I am like you do know the abbe value of high index is the almost exactly the same as poly right? Oh well, CR39 or mid-index for the next 3 months isn't the end of the world.

Cherry Optical out of Green Bay. We have been VERY happy with them. They do outsource for Hoya product which is the only time we tend to run into backorders and delays.

We actually just got in a Trivex 7/28 Trans. from the end of January. Was ordered through one vendor for a month, then we switched to another vendor to cut nearly a month off the lead time.

Just spoke to my lab rep and she said it's because these lenses are from Essilor and Essilor is having back order issues. Currently only Essilor makes Trivex 7x28, but Trivex bifocals can be sourced by other manufacturers. So on our end, we are only affected with 7x28 which have a 3 month backorder. So if your lab is an Essilor lab and they are telling you that bifocals are backordered too, then they are only sourcing from Essilor and not other vendors.
