Avesis, a guardian company

Our Optical has been contacted to join the Avesis network or contract.
We are considering joining.
If anyone would be willing to share their experience, I would appreciate it.

I have never worked with them when I was in a private practice, I worked with them in a big box store. They were a pain to work with because they put so many 0's in front of their authorization numbers. So I would literally call to get authorizations and the computer voice would add like 8 0's in front of the auth, a little tricky to get it correct without having it repeated several times.

I remember Avesis being larger in the southwest than where I am at, so Arizona, New Mexico etc, it may make more sense to be in their network if that is your area. Some things I might consider before I signed onto a new network is if I can use my own labs or if I have to use one affiliated with them. I would also want to test drive their claims system to make sure it wasn't terrible like Davis Vision is. You will also want to know how long it takes for them to pay their claims.

Their benefits chart can be really confusing to read. It technically tells you a lot about their co-pays and stuff based on the numbers of their card, but matching it all up is just a major pain. It was too long ago for me to remember all of it, but my current office dropped them just before I joined due to the fact that their lab is in Nevada somewhere, and we are decidedly not. Turnaround/quality was evidently not great.
