Have any retail opticians gotten their covid-19 vaccination?

I was turned away at Bellevue hospital for a covid vaccination on January 28, even though I work and live in New York and the guidelines include Optometrists and their staff as of January 4th. I work in a retail setting with a doctor as a sales associate who also deals with patients/clients in fitting, dispensing and adjusting, often with the clients pulling their masks down to see the glasses. The hospital turned me away because my letter of eligibility said "sales associate", even though it expressly says I work with a doctor and patients. Has anyone else had a problem?

I am fortunate to work where I do at this time. I work for an ophthalmologist in an outpatient building that has a hospital attached. The hospital does have covid patients. Vaccines were provided to front line covid attending staff first and then second to any other staff in the building. Because I work 1-1 with direct patient contact, we qualify in our state as health care worker. I am thankful to have gotten it since I am also diabetic and have a lot of non-compliant patients. (Most that take off their masks are very elderly and have no mal-intent.) Just in case anyone is curious... I got the Pfizer vaccine and had no side effects at all from the first shot and only a sore arm after the second one. I am currently one week out from my second shot.

Same here (MRNA Pfizer) first dose last Friday, also with comorbidities and over age 65, although I'm presently not seeing clients (suspended operations last November). No side effects. Need more data on the variants circulating before I reopen the shop. I suspect we'll still be wearing masks through the rest of this year though.

    David,

Getting into 1b varies by state. There are plenty of NY opticians here who should be able to help.

    Best regards,

Good luck! The first time I went, my entire office was able to get it but they ran out when I got there. So frustrating. I do think it will get better soon, especially when J&J releases their vaccines.

I have an appointment for my first shot this afternoon. Two previous appointments were canceled without explanation, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I got mine 2 weeks ago yesterday. They are to notify me to set up appointment for the 2nd shot, in 2 weeks. I got the Moderna vaccine and had no side effects, just a little tender, where I got the injection.

I got the Moderna on Tuesday. I had a VERY sore arm for a day and a half and on Wedensday I was very tired and running a fever for a couple hours. I was fortunately able to get in the next day after signing up.

I got my first shot 3 weeks ago and get my next one today after work. They included optical in the latter part of the 1A category. I am in a private office but several friends working in retail had no issue getting vaccinated either. Though I am not sure if it was coordinated through their companies are not. This is one time I am not entirely sad to be considered to be part of the healthcare industry.

I got the first dose of Pfizer on Thursday. Big injection site pain for two and a half days. Serious, flu-like body aches for a day and a half, especially in my legs and back. All good now. Looking forward to round two in a few weeks.

2nd dose of Pfizer, no serious side effects. Felt tired and had a headache, less injection site pain than first shot. Slept/rested for 10 hours the night after getting the shot and I'm back to work a day and a half later.
