    Crizal Rock

So I was updating our insurance binders with all the formulary tiers, and I saw Crizal Rock listed under Eyemed. Has that actually rolled out yet? I haven't heard anything from our Essilor rep or our lab about it. May be nice to have an AR I actually feel comfortable giving to construction workers

Crizal Rock is currently available only for the New Essilor RayBan Rx lens, which Eyemed can provide now.

Crizal Rock will be ready for all other retail exactly 3 months from now.

    +1

today hi-end AR are all good (hight bayer hardness, and high smooth) I wonder if this new Ar is really a "rock" .

Also... we all know....hardness (coating+lens) on cr39 is different from poly or 1.74

    Thanks for the link NAICITPO!

Now what the doubting Thomas' of Optiboard need to do is make a few pair of glasses with one lens Avance and the other Rock.

There's a real life test result I'd be interested in (assuming the coating cost is more)!!!

Anyone here actually running a chamber, and can give us some actual idea of real-world differences between Avancé and the new Dwayne Johnson variant in terms of cleanability or scratch resistance of the new stack? The marketing dept is falling all over themselves to push the tired "latest and greatest", "best ever made" silliness as per usual with every other product tweak since the dawn of time. Just wondering if there's really any appreciable difference noticed on the user end, or if it's just an extra few bucks poorer on every private pay invoice we see? Cheers!

Just got this insurance info from our Essilor rep.

As well as the basics of the stacks:

    https://www.essilorpro.com/content/d...-One-Pager.pdf

I have not ordered any of these lenses in yet, we don't tend to do a lot of Avance orders in my store so I don't think this will be a go to for us. I do have some construction workers and safety glass wearers I am going to try this and get their feedback about it. But that will take several months.

Yeah, I've seen the same marketing department fluff. Look forward to hearing from anyone on the lab side, and/or running the chambers, for their take on the different stack.

The rep said they basically doubled the scratch protection by adding 4 layers instead of two (like on the avance). So I asked why not 6 layers or 8 layers, and they didn't have a very good answer to that.

Manufacturers are always going to produce new products sometimes better sometimes not. The marketing department will always spin it to get new customers. IMO the only thing the customer wants in an AR coating is that it won’t crack it won’t peel it won’t craze and it is easy to clean. There is no coating or lens that won’t scratch so don’t make that a selling point it will haunt you at some point. Most coatings today easily meet those requirements and they do not scratch under normal use.

That makes no sense because the top layer can still scratch lol

From what I understand from our rep, they're replacing Avance with Rock. Interested to see how well it really holds up. End of the day, like Lensman11 said, nothing is scratchproof. Really wish they'd focus on shoring up the other qualities. We got everything for the RayBan Authentics, kinda want to put one through just to test out the Rock. (I just like saying it. Don't judge me )

So they've doubled the longevity of it's scratch resistance? But not the actual Bayer level at all if I read that correctly. We'll put 4 coats of the same paint on, so it will take twice as long to fade and peel off in the sun. But we're still using the same paint, primer, and everything else. Also - you get to pay more.

This is why I was hoping to hear some feedback from the independent folks, actually running a chamber, and get their take. The marketing fluff pieces tell me nothing useful - apart from we'll be just that much poorer on these jobs when we get the bill.

I suppose the bloated marketing budget is a use it or lose it sorta thing?

Sooooooo you know how they said it won't be available for another 3 months, only in Ray Ban RX? Yeah it's already available through Nassau OOGP. Says in stock and ships immediately. There's also a Blue Capture version as well. Aspheric and non. Ordering one of each. Gonna test this little fella out. I'll let yall know!

Yes it's launched now (as of April 14th), I've ordered a dozen this week. I'm sure there will be no perceptible difference, just as with Easy, Alize, and Avance. But great to know they are available finished already from Nassau!

They are cagey about it's durability comparison. In the white paper the comparison is always to the "previous generation of Crizal" (which could be any of them), and in the sell sheet "3x more scratch resistant than entry-level Crizal product", which presumably means Easy.

They clearly are positioning it as the most durable in their portfolio, more than Sapphire. Previous such charts always rated Avance and Sapphire equally durable.

Yeah that post that said that was 2 months ago, looks like they are a month early. I have ordered lenses on Nassau this week too, a couple construction workers and 1 mom whose young ones grab at her glasses and throw them on the ground often. We'll see...
