    AO Optical Ultramatic knobs

I've got a AO Optical Ultramatic phoropter. The Auxiliary Lens Knob (OD) is loose. I looked at the phoropter and couldn't really see anything that would tighten it. I looked at the manual online and no luck. I'm thinking that I might have to get it serviced. Anyone had a similar issue at all. This is the first problem I've had with my phoropter in almost 40 years.

It's a common problem with those phoroptors and have repaired that several times.
The plate behind the knob comes loose.
It is best to have it serviced by a qualified service tech.
Too bad you are not closer.
When have you had your phorptor cleaned last?

Ya I'm thinking I might just get it serviced. I'm not sure when it was last cleaned. I might just have to call someone.

A strong word of caution. if you are thinking about trying to fix the knob yourself. The setscrews that secure the knobs may look like conventional six sided setscrews, they are not! They are spline screws, they need spline wrenches. A six sided (Allen) wrench will strip the splines in the setscrew making the setscrew impossable to remove.
