I have a tear in me sunnies

OK, you all know about the sunwear with the "integrated" silicone nosepads? You know, the kind that are somehow permanently affixed to the bridge?

You know, the kind where the Achilles' heel of indestructible carbonite sunwear frame with expensive glass multifocal lenses is a puny piece of rubber that tears in a year, and the whole glasses are shot?

    That kind?

Well I have one. (I'll "diss" them by name: Smith Optics. I now "diss" myself for stocking sunwear like this.)

Is there a solution? Is there an adhesive to put Humpty Dumpty back together again? Can you remove them and replace them?

    Thanks.

Super glue works. I agree that it is super frustrating. Luckily it usually doesn't happen that quick. It's funny you mention it though because I had a client with this issue earlier today and he had only had his pair of Smith Optics (glasses) 6 months...

Not to pimp out a local (to me) company that I work with on difficult repair jobs, but I'm going to pimp out a local company that I work with on difficult repair jobs. Northwest Frame Repair (https://www.northwestframerepair.com/) has saved my proverbial bacon in similar situations. I had a patient with a very similar sounding frame (it wasn't a Smith frame, but it was a high-wrap Z87 frame with an integrated silicone nosepad) and they did a bang-up job replacing the broken bits. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Seems the Smith silicone sucks schnozz sebum getting sloppy and soft, sapping its strength OR SOMETHING.

    Salutations.

This used to happen to all the rubber on Nike sunglasses, nearly impossible to fix since human sweat & oil's seem to eradicate silicone like kryptonite.

This line made me laugh so hard...

maui jim had some frames with the same design but they are pretty good about sending replacement pads for free when they got worn down. The first time I had to repair one, I had to call them to find out what glue to use since regular super glue wasn't working. They told me to use Loctite brand "Gel Control Super Glue" which works really well and does not harden in the tube after a few weeks like regular super glue does.

Did the superglue. Worked surprisingly well. I usually see superglue disasters with glasses.
