Confused NXT?!!! What in the World....

Hey guys, everywhere you look nowadays it's all about NXT this and NXT that. I understand what it does and the hype, but can anyone tell me what NXT stands for? Trust me, I've looked. They all tell you what it does and why it's special but somehow forgot to tell you what it actually means! SHM!!!

Unless you can find someone who worked for Intercast Europe or maybe Simula back in the early 2000's we will probably never know what NXT means. I spent way more time than I should have looking though the waybackmachine and as far as I can tell they just made up "NXT" with no rhyme or reason. It was Intercast's(later owned by PPG, now Essilor) trivex monomer.

That's pretty interesting. I know 'PNX' stands for 'phoenix' and it's true you hear NXT everywhere...

    totally agree.

Yes, NXT was the Intercast's version of trivex for the sun, they created a special dipped into pigment lens made by trivex for sunlenses, so it is resistent and no fading over time.

they also created the NXT soft a flexible-rublike sunlenses, they used it on zero rh+ frames (ony plano lenses) today "nxt soft" material disappear.
nowadays the nxt brand is own by essilor and it was used by essilor sunlenses group for plano sunlens and precolored black for RX.

    they are great.

At one time, Intercast, aka Interlenti, was the largest producer of CR39® cast plano sunlens blanks. Paolo Baiocchi was very proud of that and started an organization that promoted CR39 lenses. When PPG and Simula developed Trivex for military use (primarily to replace poly that was not chemical resistant) in googles and gas masks, Paolo and his team in Italy were very interested. I do not remember exact year but was around 96 or 97, PPG began to license Trivex for Rx and sunwear. Younger (always an innovator, HOYA and X-Cel jumped in early. All gave Trivex their own tradename.
I know someone made a joke, but Paolo probably did call his NXT as next.
If things would have went as planned a couple years before that, SOLA would have had first shot. PPG had this in mind but SOLA stuck with Spectralite for mid index offerings.
