    Patient sees green through glasses

    Hello all,

i have a new patient who came in the other day and ordered a pair of eyeglasses with progressive lenses. He made it clear that he wanted plain, clear lenses because with his own previous lenses he sees a green tint through them. I explained that his glasses do not have any coatings on them (no A/R coatings) and this is pretty weird. He told me just make them clear without any coatings and they will be fine.

I ordered 1.6 index lenses (his previous lenses were 1.5) without any coatings. He popped in today to pick up his glasses and he says that with these ones he sees a green tint as well and it is something that he finds very irritating.

I have never come up with something like this before, does anyone of you might have any thoughts on the matter? I have contacted various factories of lenses and they could also not help on this matter.

Thank you very much in advance,

    Theo

Me neither but i will try different types of lenses of different materials. Hopefully that might help. I will update the thread with news.

Maybe a type of very light dichromacy?

Does he experience the same without glasses?

Edit: Chloropsia an option? Did px have cataract surgery?

If this issue is consistent with the last pair of glasses, this may be the reason why

I think you are on to something. Post Cat issue or worse, digitalis poisoning.

Thank you all for your answers. No he does not experience this phenomenon without his eyeglasses. Only when he wears his eyeglasses. The patient did not have a cataract surgery and his fundus is very clear. No signs of cataract. From what i understand this patient has been having this problem since his previous pair of spectacles. That is about 3-4 years now.

Guessing that the Rx is minus five-ish.

Might be hypersensitive to chromatic aberration. Use less dispersive materials and zero out any prismatic effects on the primary gaze; e.g., prism thinning, OC as close as possible to the primary gaze. Incorporate coated optics to increase the signal to noise ratio. Trial frame to confirm.

    Hope this helps,

    Dear Robert,

thank you for your reply. The patient is a hypermetrop.

I have ordered different types of lenses with and without coatings. I am hoping this will solve the problem.

    I will keep you posted.

    Thank you all.

Have you tried a trial frame? If he sees it through that, something else is going on. If it's not present, it indeed appears he is unusually sensitive to the optical properties of certain materials.

During the refraction he did not complain about any green tint.

Given the low script, I'd probably just go 1.5. If he still has a problem, I can't think of anything other than actual glass.

There still may be value to trial framing him outside of the controlled lighting of the exam room.

Hello all, thank you very much for all your responses. Unfortunately we did not manage to find a solution to the fact that this patient sees a light green tint through his eyeglasses.
We tried, poly, trivex, 1.5, 1.6, mineral glass all with A/R coatings AND without.
He noticed that 1.6 without A/R was the most comfortable for him with the less tint.
Unfortunately we were not able to figure out what the reason is. He will stick to 1.6 lenses.

thank you very much. No matching medications. We tried every material possible, less noticeable with 1.6 index so we sticked to 1.6.

My one picky patient who notices chromatic aberration is very happy with 1.60.

Apparently your refraction was too perfect, I would have +-0.25 him back to mediocre vision.
