How safe is safe when measuring for eyeglasses?
That depends on your and your customer concerns. Most opticians and optometrists agree the days of using a . 99 CENT sharpie and a Pupillometer will not cut it For the future anymore. Many progressive offices, including the commercial industry have already moved forward with using electronic measuring tool with great success.

Now that safety and social distancing has taken the forefront, now is the time to show your customer that you care and have invested In their safety, well being and best vision.

Throw away your antiquated Pupillometer and tool that the industry has been using for the past 50 + years.

Instead of measuring within a few inches of your customers mouth or having them a few inches from yours, compare these options.

Using a measuring device and an iPad app will keep you comfortable at about 3 feet from the patients face while maintaining the iPad as an added barrier between the optician and the customer. Assuming both the customer and the optician are wearing masks, most will find this to be a safe distance when measuring for glasses.

For those that want more, you can either take the measurements with the iPad but having a plexiglass barrier between the customer and the staff taking the measurements.

Another option would be to use the same technology at 6 ft away with placing the iPad on a stand and operating the iPad with a trackpad a blue tooth mouse.

I do agree to you optician jw that we need to be progreesive in adapting new tech. There are many countries where eye care do not have a adequate facility or reach and cost may be a concern. So depending upon financial condition and reach one has to provide best of services. i hope you too agree with me.
