    So if we are going to allow OTC readers, and whether or not we should we already are, that ship sailed looong before I took my first PD - don't make glasses for a patient just make OTC readers, and put them in a box for them to choose and buy. As long as you aren't taking a PD and custom making them for the patient, all should be fine in any state. As long as those states allow drugstores to sell otc readers

    I agree. I am actually working on a "White Paper" about OTC and meeting MINIMUM ANSI Z80.1 standards. So far, it looks like a 30% rejection rate. So...1 out of 3 FAIL.

    That is failing a lab standard.
    Not failing to satisfy a wearer.

    OTC Readers are covered by ANSI Z80.31 - 2017.
