    Charging Medicare patient S&H?

I have a patient who is getting contacts after cataract surgery. We don't keep any stock contacts in our office except for trials so we have to special order them and they're shipping to their home. Am I able to (bill) / place the S&H fee on the claim form to Medicare? If I am, I'd assume it would by submitted it as a misc. service code V2799 along with a narrative stating what the fee is for.

Also, she's ordered 2 boxes (only wears a lens in one eye), a 1 year supply. Do you still only bill it as 1 unit of service since it's a 1 year supply of contacts?

    TIA,
    Emily

More than likely Medicare will not pay for the shipping, even if you use V2799 code. They probably will not pay for contacts, just after cataract glasses.
