Do you/your office Charge for minor repairs???

    Hi all,

I was just curious what/if you or your office charge for minor repairs/adjustments. I.e. Changing out nose pads, temple bends, adjusting alignment etc.

We are a small independent practice with so much competition around that we have chosen not to charge anything for these repairs/adjustments, in a way to set our self apart. It has gone a long way with our patients, and we have seen it paid back in kind with word of mouth referrals. This particular method has worked for us but I was curious what others do for these types of repairs.

If one did not get their glasses from me, I refuse to work on them for free.

You can get just as much goodwill by doing a good job and charging a fair price, if you're friendly.

I don't think the idea of "free" is ever good.

"It's X dollars, but you get a 10% discount coupon on your next purchase with us".

In that way you can see if the person is there just to exploit you or if he is looking more seriously at your business (aka considering becoming a long term customer if the service is good).

I never charge for repairs unless it takes longer than 13 minutes for me to fix.

We DO NOT lay a finger on WP frames.

Easy first-time-in repairs are told the normal fee, but since it’s their “first-time”, I waive the fee.

    works perfect.

further, I decide if I will charge. Read the situation.

Our office has a general no charge policy. I have however talked to my boss about at the very least charging for "off the street" repairs. People who bring in frames that were not purchased from us. At this point we only have them sign a disclaimer of sorts, but it still makes me uncomfortable. The office has been doing things this way for way longer than I have worked here. But, I guess there is always room for change and growth.

If the repair can be done in house, there is no charge. We do not solder, nor use hot fingers, so if anything has to be sent out, we charge enough to cover expenses, if the frame is out of warranty.
I bend light. That is what I do.

Most repairs are no charge. Anything that we can't do here (which is pretty basic) and has to be sent to lab would have a charge. Parts would have a charge. NP and screws, adjustments would not. I find a lot of people do come back for glasses with us. The few that don't... oh well. I have had some frames we would refuse to do anything with (bad quality, poor condition etc). I have also had some that we prob should have charged for because it ended up not being so minor of a repair and took too much of our time. Lesson learned on that one. For the most part, we look at it as a low cost advertising opportunity.
