    Rimless Part 2.

    So I have further developed a stainless steel rimless concept frame.
    No glue, no parts to cut.
    Super easy to assemble and un-assemble, as required.
    No compression.
    Solid mechanical assembly.
    No parts protrude from lens front surface, so easy to clean or adapt a clip on.

    I am at the advanced prototype stage and getting ready to actually produce some of these things.

    Thats pretty neat. I like that it doesnt rely on plastic nuts or compression plugs. Looks like you could simply add a magnet to the end of it for a chemistrie style clip-on.

    Thanks - the parts are stainless steel, i guess i could look into that possibility, whether a magnetic clip would work....
    But yes - there is no compression the set screw really links together the frame and the lens by simple threading. I am suprised how strong the assembly is.

    That would require a custom post length for every job in order to get the magnet flush with the lens front, which does not practical.

    So the set screw cuts threads into the lens materiel on the inside of the hole the first time it is screwed in? Is there a minimum lens edge thickness to make this work?

    100% exactly that. The threaded hole created is half in the frame, half in the lens.

    I think at 1.8 mm edge thickness up to 5mm there is no issue at all. Have tried a wide range of Rx and materials. No failures yet.
    PC, 1.6 etc...
    Obviously it works in CR39 but probably a poor choice...
    The cool part is you can disassemble and reassemble as many times as you need, and the screw finds the same threads .
