Are the operations bound solely by the laws of the state they operate in? So if i am from An optician free state i can ship all over creation with no boundaries?

When I complained to an inspector about a convenience store (they since have stopped selling them) selling contact lenses I was referred to this site:

    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/article...contact-lenses

I find it very frustrating that I will be fined a $100 if an inspector comes in to the office and I am not wearing a name tag with my license number on it- but our board of professional licensing here in Massachusetts has no power to to do anything about internet glasses adhering to standards required of me.

In Mass General Laws, opticians follow the rules on the books set forth by optometry for eyeglasses and contacts care. This is on the books: You cannot get an Rx in Massachusetts for eyeglasses or contacts without being examined with a biomicroscope, or slit lamp. That is one of the core components to eye care and contact lens care for licensed professionals in Massachusetts.
I have had only 1 on-line Rx presented to me. The patient was told it was not valid in Mass.

There is a major factory in far east that is now supplying specs online. Retail price $10 - quality of frames poor - lenses + centres - take your chances - but it is having effect

There was an article a few months ago about the FDA recalling the online exams offered by Opternative aka Visibly. https://www.optometrytimes.com/news/visibly-formerly-opternative-recalls-online-vision-test

Smart buy glasses are advising an app that reads the Rx from your glasses. No idea how they're getting away with it

An app that can neutralize an Rx? Correctly? That just doesn't seem reasonable.

Maybe with one of the latest high end devices. You would need a powerful SoC not to use the typical shortcuts in the math and excellent optics not to screw it up. I can see how it could be done but you'd need a truly top-notch programmer. If the device wasn't perfectly planar, relative to the lens, and steady, you'd need to compensate using the internal gyroscope and accelerometer to account for the position and movement of the device.

1-800 Contacts is partnered with Liigo Eyewear which also has an app and online system to measure your glasses Rx. I tried it, perfectly accurate.

been there , seen that , done that in Ontario - the answer in my humble opinion would have been to vote out that administration and quit paying fees to them.

The problem is, that as old school opticians, you were erroneously led down the garden path to belief that “you can’t do this, it’s illegal “, however you are all now learning that your years of paying fees bought you nothing. You are also now learning that those who were not so brainwashed, have displaced you and make their own rules, without any fees attached, they are not restricted by your thought patterns and beliefs.

So tell me, why keep voting in the same and paying the same to get the same old results ? Your license money buys you nothing.
