Because states don't have eyeglass police and the FBI says they have more pressing matters

When I complained to an inspector about a convenience store (they since have stopped selling them) selling contact lenses I was referred to this site:

    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/article...contact-lenses

I find it very frustrating that I will be fined a $100 if an inspector comes in to the office and I am not wearing a name tag with my license number on it- but our board of professional licensing here in Massachusetts has no power to to do anything about internet glasses adhering to standards required of me.

In Mass General Laws, opticians follow the rules on the books set forth by optometry for eyeglasses and contacts care. This is on the books: You cannot get an Rx in Massachusetts for eyeglasses or contacts without being examined with a biomicroscope, or slit lamp. That is one of the core components to eye care and contact lens care for licensed professionals in Massachusetts.
I have had only 1 on-line Rx presented to me. The patient was told it was not valid in Mass.

There is a major factory in far east that is now supplying specs online. Retail price $10 - quality of frames poor - lenses + centres - take your chances - but it is having effect

There was an article a few months ago about the FDA recalling the online exams offered by Opternative aka Visibly. https://www.optometrytimes.com/news/visibly-formerly-opternative-recalls-online-vision-test

And yet there it is: 1-800-contacts online contact lens exam is there today at their website for all to use. I again reported this to the FDA today and did get an email saying they received my email.
