    A/R defect detection

Without trashing any one particular manufacturer we occasionally have problems with stock A/R coated lenses crazing in either the blocking, edging, or deblocking process. Usually undetectable to us at final inspection but obvious upon return by the patient. Im interested in knowing what if any inspection lights are available to help us see this problem before it leaves our lab. Were currently using 3M leap pads with a Coburn (not so) Smart Blocker and an Optronics 7EX . As mentioned earlier Im not interested in discussing the advantages or disadvantages of one manufacturers A/R over another.

Use a 100 watt incandescent bulb with a black backround, The fractures will light up! Thin lenses, need base curve appropriate blocks, get all the support you can on the ram side, felt backing pad,
make sure the ram pad is not hardenend with age.

DAC has an inspection box available. It will show more defects than you may care to see.
