    Stock Inventory Indexes

    Hello,

Need some help in choosing stock indexes, I have a few ideas and require some feedback from those who stock lenses. Thinking of carry two indexes:

1.5 and 1.6- Will cover standard rxÂ’s and high index up to -4.00 sphere -1.25 cyl

1.56 and Poly- Will cover standard rxÂ’s and high index up to -4.00 sphere -1.25 cyl

Poly and 1.67- Will cover standard rxÂ’s and high index up to -6.00 sphere -1.25 cyl

Would love to hear pros and cons of each combination.

Also do you guys think itÂ’s a good idea to keep hydrophobic coating standard for all your stock lenses??

Thanks for reading and would love some feedback from the experts!

1.5 and 1.6 with AR is the very easy choice for me, and the way I dispense.

Where are you getting 1.56 and 1.60 stock from? Those are not exactly best-selling lens materials.

If you have to choose only two materials, I'd make it plastic and poly for maximum versatility. Or poly with and without AR. You should have a stock lens supplier that can get you the more exotic materials at pretty short notice.

I quit stocking lenses a few years back. Consumers today are now willing to wait an entire day! I feel no need to invest in the inventory, I know some markets may feel it necessary, but I sure don't.

I completely agree. Unless you have a huge volume of work, and you get a massive discount, I can't see the point in stocking anything either.

+2. I can get basically any stock item I need from ABB, Nassau, or Plexus in 1-2 business days. The amount of money needed to establish a supply of stock lenses is pretty significant, and in the end much of it ends up just sitting in drawers.

In your opinion what are best selling index materials?

It's available in many more lens designs, coatings, powers, sizes, and photochromic options, and is much much less expensive. It's also much more impact-resistant, so much safer for kids and sports.
