    Temple adjustments

Has anybody else dealt with bad temple adjustments, more and more I am having patients come in for adjustments on their temples because they are too tight, I am uterlly shocked when they take their specs off and their temples are turned straight down, no curve what so ever, I asked 1 patient who went to 2 different opticals within the same chain and both left them that way, I now have another patient for life, after I correctly adjusted her temples, but what of all the other frames that don't come in for a proffesional adjustment?

All the time... that's how you get people to start coming to your office. They see how much better you are than a chain store. Sucks about the other people but you get what you pay for.

Box stores are their own worst enemy.

We call those "optometrist bends" here. I do see them occasionally where I am(unlicensed state). But, I would say the vast majority of the outside frames I see have never been adjusted at all. The patients always say "I took them in 3 or 4 times to the place I got them to have them adjusted." It's pretty sad.

I've seen HORRID "adjustments" in numerous states - licensed states actually had some of the WORST. LOL

But yeah, it runs the gamut from no adjustment at all, the almost 90 degree straight down bend, carving painful furrows down the back of the pts ears, or the worst of all, the 1/4 circle radius bends, that match NO human ear in the history of ever, nor do they even come close to starting at the precise top of the ear where they belong. It's sad, but I agree its the easiest way to gain a loyal patient. Spend the 10-20 seconds to properly evaluate and measure a good temple adjustment and fit, and you're already ahead of 90% of the rabble. ;)

Usually this works, until you get the crazy patient who claims you ruined their "super expensive" glasses by putting all those bends in them.

I see that all the time.
Unfortunately, I also see glasses get dispensed with no adjustments at all, if i'm with other patient's and they just get handed over to them.

If any of my Opticians do that they get paperwork, they have a set of dispensing things to follow at all times.

The worst adjusters I've worked with have been older licensed opticians. No joke.

On rare occasion I find this works.

    Rare being the operative word.

If you observe deficient temple bending skill, I suggest selling Oakleys

I suggest not buying from luxottica, an enemy of independent opticians.

There are companies out there designing frames with temple grip sides which are significantly better than Oakley, anyway.

Constantly in a pediatric clinic. 90 degree bends. I would venture that most humans do not have square ears. Also, I did have a patient child recently fit with a frame two sizes too large and suggested speaking with the manager at the America's Best Chili & Spectacles place to redo with a smaller frame. Only to receive a call from them stating "It's what they selected, Don't send patients back to us." Trust me, I won't.

I have sent patients back with PAL measurements, PD, Seg, everything due to the soup shops saying it was our RX that was wrong, they called stating they knew what they where doing and they are redoing to my specs and if it didn't work I would be billed. I said go for it, just make sure you do them the way I say. Never another RX issue from the patients. Imagine how that works.
