    Back-side (internal) segmented multifocal

    A patient wants a segmented BF for a pair of wrap sunglasses, but wants a mirror coating.

    If we put the seg on the front, the mirror would look crappy.

    I know there is a certain lab in Pittsburg that can free-form a round seg on the inside, which would be perfect, and I've done a couple.

    Are there any other alternatives?

    On a different strategic tack, has anyone ever mirror coated a front surface round seg? Look goofy?

    Just do an invisible bifocal, job done. The Shamir Duo would be perfect.

    Only Wiley X and that certain lab in Pittsburgh make acceptable round digital backside bifocals in my experience, TONS say they can but do a horrific job. I don't think you can get a segmented bifocal on the back surfaced lens. Maybe one day! but the surfacing cost on a generator that could do such precise work, and the cost of a blank would be way more than anyone would most likely want to pay.

    Maybe stick on bifocals from 3M?

    Mob, correct me on any errors;

    1. RD seg pre-cast are only available in CR, no polar option.

    2. 3 Rivers does backside RD segs in most any material/option. ( expect to pay)

    3. If worried about cosmetics, then, duty to warn; “Dis gonna be fuggly”... Then it’s patients choice.

    I'm taking Sir Robert's advice and trying the Shamir Duo.
