How do you deal with Essilor/Luxottica?

Here in Germany, we get a Situation like it is in the US. Essilor/Luxottica is buying the second largest chain (Apollo) and is now a competitor. We reduced our Portfolio and the only Luxottica frames we sell, are Ray-Ban. Right now we don't buy Essilor Glasses either.

How do you deal with Essilor/Luxotica as a competitor in other countries?

You have to have an educational approach. When a customer comes in asking for Ray Ban, you explain why the products you stock are better. It's quite easy so long as you have products that are genuinely better quality or more unique. Most people will listen.

We stopped buying from both companies about 10 years ago and have gone from strength to strength ever since.

You will find that all the the best independent stores in Europe avoid mainstream eyewear. It's a crutch and if you're a good optician, you do not need it.

Not buying from essilor is so easy; nobody really cares if they get an essilor lens or not. Avoiding all the companies owned by them is a bit harder though!
