I am proud to share an accomplishment of Jose Alonso and Juan A. Quiroga, two IOT founders and researchers who, in collaboration with Jose A. Gomez-Pedrero of the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, have re-written the “bible” of modern ophthalmic optics.
The book covers the most relevant topics in modern ophthalmic optics, utilizing a profuse use of the unifying and powerful matrix description of curvature and power. Lens materials, surfaces, wavefronts, filters and coatings are just a few of the many topics covered in this landmark book.
With an introduction by Dr. Michael Morris, this book was written for eyecare professionals, researchers and graduate students wishing to expand their knowledge of ophthalmic optics.
Congratulations to the authors on this achievement.

Wow other than Michael Keatings books this is probably the second. Book that apply matrix based mathematics to ophthalmic optics. Come on people it's 2019, stop using 1 dimensional formulas and let's get into the 3 dimensional stuff already. I think matrix based math started to gain real traction in the 80's, this is almost 40 years in the making and well overdue.

This book is no 'new bible'. Bought this book and found it contains virtually all the Mathematics at the University Math graduate level, and is certainly not practical for the average North American optician. I suggest spending your money on Ellen Stoner's excellent 'Optical Formula Tutorial'.

You definitely need a solid foundation in linear algebra in order to just read this thing. Just bought the book myself.

It is in English (unsure if they've written in other languages) and it is quite dense conceptually but also mathematically. They make use of the matrix formalism - hence linear algebra. In terms of language, it is the type you would expect of optical engineers and PhDs dealing with ophthalmic optics - a lot of jargon!
