    Shamir

Just had my first Shamir Rep stop by in like 2 years. I told him that I was busy and that he would have to come back in a few weeks. We do use Auto III and Auto II occasionally. I know the Intelligence came out but I'm still not to sure what the big difference between the Intelligence and Auto III is besides the algorithm used to calculate them. Anyone had lots of experience with the Shamir lens. The few lens that I've done I've had no problems, but the way I look at it, it's more or less similar to other top company lens, Varilux, Zeiss, Hoya. What does everyone else think?

We've been using Shamir almost exclusively for the past 5 or 6 years. We've done well with them, very little adaptation issues. $$ compared to competitors is pretty attractive, especially when you factor in the rebate program. We are just now starting to order the Intelligence on some VSP jobs to try it out so I can't say much about it yet, but the InTouch and Auto III have performed very well. Also, their workspace/computer designs are good for 2nd pair sales.

Obviously every practice is different, but it's definitely worth your consideration IMO.

The Autograph Intelligence is actually considerably different than Autograph III.

Intelligence actually changes the lens design based on the wearer's add power. At low adds, the design is very soft, and incrementally hardens as the add power increases (get your mind out of the gutter!). Autograph III is the same lens design regardless of power choice.

We have limited experience using Intelligence thus far since it's still pretty new, but the early results have been promising. Fit it like any other progressive, and be aware that your low add patients get a soft design and your high add patients get a hard design, and apply accordingly. Like any lens, it's never going to be perfect for every single patient.

It's very functionally similar to any new lens design from any top company (Varilux's X-series, HOYA's iD Lifestyle 3, etc).
