Why new glasses make circles look oval / oblong?

    Patients RX
    +2.25 -0.25 x 100
    +2.75 - 0.25 x 070
    +2.50 ADD
    pd 60/57

Patient ordered single vision distance and single vision near. Her new glasses make circle objects look oval.
Lens material for single vision distance is polycarb spherical
Lens material for single vision near is polycarb aspheric

The doctor cannot explain why and has no solution. Any recommendations what we should do?

OC heights. Too much BD Prism when looking through the lenses. What is the vertical imbalance? This can also be resolved with panto/retro as long as it’s within +/- 2mm.

Silly, but germane: are they vertical ovals or horizontal ovals?

    My guess is vertical.

Either way, the only hope is to :
    1. change either pantoscopic tilt or faceform (probably need to decrease face-form or increase panto)
    2. cut out the cyl power

    This person seems unusually sensitive.

Your original question has been answered. But, why would you use spherical for distance and aspheric for near only? Why would you want to reduce the magnification for near vision only glasses? Seems counter productive.

The readers are almost double in power and therefore will have more distortion. An aspherical lens will control this somewhat. Aspherical in both would be better though.

I've always found people complain more about near only aspheric lenses, due to the decreased magnification.

    Can't say I've encountered that.
