    Liberty Eyewear Review

    Part I: the company

    Pro:
    • Liberty has probably the biggest brand in protective sport eyewear. "RecSpecs" is synonymous with sport eyewear.
    • Probably the widest choice of products
    • Probably the most creative company in terms of products and programs
    • Have their own lab and package deals

    Con:
    • They've been criticized for their uneven pricing structure when dealing with indies vs. chains
    • Don't have field reps
    • Can be quite expensive
    • It's great to have an affiliated lab, but many/most VCP patients can only benefit as a second pair

    Part II: the products

    "Switch" collection:
    • Interchangeable lenses
    • Could be used for: Rx sun + plano sun / two tint style Rx sun / SVDO sun + multifocal sun / Rx sun + dress Rx?

    "Water sports" collection:
    • Rx-able, but limited powers
    • Higher powers would be difficult to wear d/t goggle frame fit
    • Pre-made options exist
    • Does have a diving mask

    "Purpose Built" sun collection:
    • Rx-able lenses
    • Interchangeable lens options
    • Side-protection options
    • Safety options with detachable side shields
    • Ideal for motorcycling
    • Interchangeable option could be good for safety eyewear clear + sun tint, plus with detachable side shields could be used as dress
    • Has one style that uses a strap for under a motorcycle helmet (but could also just use a sport google instead)
    • An option for that rare super dry-eye patient

    "Active everyday virtually indestructible frames"
    • Novel tough plastic frames
    • Aimed at kids, but two larger styles
    • Limited styles, questionable looks, but matter of taste

    "Sport Protective"
    Goggles (headstrap and no temples)
    • For under helmets, primarily
    • Large range of styles and colors
    • Kid to adult

Frames (temples with removable elastic strap)
    • Very large range of styles, sizes and colors
    • Least dorky on the market?

Interchangeable between goggle and frame ("Sport shift")
    • Good for multi-sports
    • Limited sizes/styles

    Part III: the hot take

    Too expensive, but good quality
Don't do programs unless you sell sportframes like hotcakes because they surprise drop ship
Lab may be good if you package and sell as second pairs
    "Sport shift" is pretty unique
"Purpose built" collection is a nice niche
"Indestructible" zyl frames may be useful for special cases (autism, hyperactivity disorder, boys in general)

The nice thing is that with Warby and other generic type retailers out there, the brand is not as relevant as it once was. ProSport is all we carry, to the point we actually shut down all of our Liberty accounts to avoid the unwanted consignment shipments. It's a shame because in the day, Liberty was a "must have" line, but today, it's a "Can't have/Don't want".

    First of all .....................................

Welcome back to OptiBoard, we missed you.

and you are correct, the brand is no more an important quality sign, it is more just simply promotion.

I display the Rider with a dry eye cup, and a Trailblazer with the standard magnetic cup (both available with either cup). Both are +6 base with about 15 degrees of wrap. The Trailblazer with the standard eye cup provides for an almost perfect light seal, and has been a godsend for those with visual disorders that result in significant light sensitivity.
