The overall objective of the department in which this position works is:
Provide authentic Maui Jim Prescription Sunglasses to optical retailers and provide outstanding customer service and support throughout the world.
The major functions of this position is:
To supervise and direct the work flow and personnel in the Finish, Surface, and Lab Shipping Departments.
Essential Duties:
- Monitor the workflow and productivity throughout the surface and finish departments, including lens pick/prep, generators, the edgers, mounters, blockers, and shipping.
- Supervise resources to achieve consistency and maximum quality.
- Train employees on finish and surface processes and procedures. Responsible for maintaining and supervising the training of Lab personnel based on written procedures.
- Daily communications with staff Supervisors and personnel on policies, procedures, and current lab events.
- Implement cross-training program amongst shifts to continually grow and develop staff skills and talents.
- Analyze and document breakage. Trouble-shoot and resolve any quality issues as they arise. Communicate findings to appropriate personnel to resume quality.
- Track and monitor the attendance of the Finish and Surface staff including vacations, over-time, and absences. Verify attendance is accurately documented.
- Supervise the cleanliness of the departments through the use of production personnel.
- Work with all departments towards a mutual goal of consistent productivity and low spoilage based on standards set by the Lab Director.
- Troubleshoot and identify corrective action for delays with workflow including spoilage.
- Monitor supply usage and waste.
- Complete performance evaluations as required for Finish and Surface teams.
- Manage employee issues including hiring, disciplinary actions, and maintaining Lab and MJ policies.
- Perform all other duties as requested and required.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to move at a fast pace.
Ability to read equipment maintenance and operating manuals.
Desired Qualifications:
As a guide, indicated below is the preferred education and experience for this position:
Four + years supervisory experience in an Rx Lab Finish and/or Surface Department.
4+ years Rx knowledge in an optical manufacturing environment.
Previous optical experience required.
