Blue Jumper .....................just some food for thought

I have to come back to this post to explain some more facts:

Do you think the entire industry buys from 3rd party distributors instead of from companies that have their own factories? There are eyeglasses made outside of China you know.

Alibaba is a business that carries advertisements for whoever that pays for it, and adheres to the rules of presentation.

That is why the site has reached into the best ranking five commercial websites on the internet.

It has the following rankings: which are among the highest you can get:

The best of the best manufacturers world wide advertise there, as well as probably the worst of the bad ones.

So you can not make a one way judgement in favor of the inferior ones.

These advertisers also publish the net selling price, for the minimum as well as higher quantity value discounts.

Furthermore the site is open to whoever who wants to visit and see the commercial domain they are interested in.

Now, anybody can see what a product is worth at the manufacturing level, and or figure out an average cost between the lower and higher prices of hundreds of manufacturers pricing world wide.

The consumer has now an easy way of figuring out a gross
profit made on any product or a similar one, sold in the conventional retail trade, and its close value at source, and plan his purchase accordingly.

Redhot Jumper Frames are the new optical internet commodity. .............................

Here is some OptiBoard post's from a few years back ......................

    optical24/7

Frames are the new optical internet commodity. It (the net) will do the same for frames that happened with CL's 20 years ago. Prepare for smaller margins on most all frames. You'll need to sell service/warranty packages separately. Get ready for it.h

I understand point on both sides of this discussion. Even if we are "shopped", we'll glaze the frame, align and adjust it at delivery, but inform them that any services needed will be billed a la carte, as needed. Then it simply depends on whether they feel the a la carte fees are worth it.

But we still 'welcome' them. That, I feel, is my job as their local eyecare services provider.

This system is clean and understandable to both professionals and consumers.

The only thing I don't like about it is: that to adopt it, you have to have waived the white flag. I'm not there, yet. Maybe we'll all get there, but I'm going to fight it as long as I can.

But don't forget, the manufacturers are watching. They're currently seemingly quite happy to have their cake and eat it too.

We created Pupils Project to eliminate the barriers that prevent kids from getting proper vision care. Our partners administer vision screenings and eye exams in classrooms (where teachers are often the first to spot issues) and we provide prescription glasses, which each student handpicks in a trunk show setup at school. For many kids, this is their first pair!

Drive-by doctoring is not a solution.

Kid needs to establish care with a doctor for long-term care.

Not some goofy Warby Parker PR stunt.

    By Brad Berens

Lately, I’ve been wondering: now that Amazon — the world’s most interesting and unpredictable company — has acquired and digested Whole Foods, what is its next most likely major acquisition?

speculative answer is Warby Parker, the innovative online seller of glasses.

    Here’s why.

This week, a Financial Times article (paywall) revealed that Amazon wants to take its home automation business out of the home, freeing Alexa, the virtual digital assistant that comes with Amazon’s Echo devices and latest Fire tablets, to roam the world.

The FT article’s headline was, “Amazon working on first wearables to interact with Alexa,” with the subhead, “Company’s ‘smart glasses’ would come with in-home virtual assistant embedded.”

Drive-by doctoring is not a solution.

...............agreed, you go in and see him, get treated for whatever is needed and walk out with an Rx for whatever is needed.

Kid needs to establish care with a doctor for long-term care.

Kid need s long term medical care does not mean that the glasses have to be purchased from the doctor

Not some goofy Warby Parker PR stunt.

........so far as I can see, they must have a good professional agency under contract to get them the publicity that seems to be successful.

    MINNETONKA, Minn. —

Warby Parker’s designer prescription eyewear is now available to approximately 2 million people enrolled in UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans, either online at warbyparker.com or at more than 80 Warby Parker stores nationwide.

This marks the first time Warby Parker is accepting Medicare insurance. People enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans that include eyewear benefits through UnitedHealthcare Vision can purchase prescription eyewear from Warby Parker for little or no out-of-pocket cost, often for less than $50.

The expansion builds on an existing network relationship that provides people with employer-sponsored and individual UnitedHealthcare plans access to Warby Parker’s designer eyewear for only a co payment. UnitedHealthcare became the first insurance plan accepted by Warby Parker in 2017

warbyparker.com or at more than 80 Warby Parker stores nationwide.

Warby Parker has now gained a possible addition of 2 million new customers, of which a good portion will be at the cost of the conventional optical retailers, who are not getting these sales.

This is the start of an new war in the optical retail business, retail pricing of insurance paid prescription glasses, which will affect a large sector of prescription eyeglass wearers.

The regular arguments against online optical's by the conventional retailers is that they are loosing money big time, which is not the case, as these businesses work it the old established way of 30 to 40 years ago, by purchasing straight from the manufacturers without any brand names which costs few dollars extra at the base.

The same reasoning applies for lenses. The cheapest lens material is *Polycarbonate* which is manufactured by injection molding, of 6 to 12 lenses at the time, same material, as your other plastic kitchen utensils, but is sold in the optical retail market at the highest possible prices because of its safety aspect against breakage.

Purchasing glasses from WarbyParker will get you glasses at way cheaper pricing , but there is no professional service, from taking the important measures , to professional advice on the type of lenses one will need, nor one of the most important items, the adjustment of the finished eyeglasses when new, and down the road, which is all included in the their selling price, and is called service.

The conventional retail trade, still has not seen that, if they would split their pricing policy into selling materials and selling their services and professional knowledge, they could probably be competitive to the on-liners.

Blue Jumper Jeff Raider on Founding Warby Parker and Harry’s First, eyeglasses..................

    CORNER OFFICE
Jeff Raider on Founding Warby Parker and Harry’s

First, eyeglasses. Now, shaving. Mr. Raider, a co-founder of two powerful direct-to-consumer brands, says change happens faster than we think.

    By David Gelles , Nov. 2, 2018

It’s hard enough to start one billion-dollar company. Jeff Raider has co-founded two.

While at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, he helped launch Warby Parker, the direct-to-consumer eyeglasses company with a social mission. Warby Parker is now worth some $1.75 billion, and has given away four million pairs of glasses to date.

After graduating from Wharton, Mr. Raider opted not to stay with Warby Parker. Instead, he went to work at a private equity firm, Charles bank. But after a short stint on Wall Street, Mr. Raider got the entrepreneurial bug again.

In 2013, he co-founded Harry’s, a direct-to-consumer men’s shaving business, with Andy Katz-Mayfield. This time, he had the advantage of experience: He raised ample capital, staffed up and bought a factory early on. Recently, Harry’s expanded with a line of women’s products.

This interview, which was condensed and edited for clarity, was conducted in New York City.

    12/04/18 10:34am

NEW YORK—Following several months of scrutiny and pressure from animal rights groups, glasses manufacturer Warby Parker issued an official apology Tuesday, expressing regret for years of testing trademark eyewear fashions on animals before introducing the styles to customers. “Though we no longer engage in the practice, from 2010 to 2015 we did conduct experiments in which hundreds of rabbits, owls, and mice were each fitted with five pairs of glasses representing a variety of looks both classic and modern, subtle and bold,” said Warby Parker spokesperson Yvette Davey, stating that the tests represented “a shameful and deeply regrettable chapter” in the company’s history, no matter how sharp and scholarly the animals looked during their trials. “This was wrong, and we are sorry. While no animals were physically harmed in our testing process, many were made to feel confused and uncomfortable after being forced to wear the wrong prescription, or a set of heavy frames that totally overwhelmed their face shape, and for that we can never apologize enough. No defenseless creature should ever be forced to try on the Fletcher, the Percey, the Tansley, the Tate, or any other Warby Parker design.” A statement from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals acknowledged the apology and reiterated that animals should never be used in such tests, even if many kittens and puppies do look “pretty ****ing adorable” in glasses.

To copy and paste is actually a lot more work than just writing a sentence or two and provide the link, and it is an actual fact and not just an opinion.

Plus it also takes some time to find the information on a certain subject. It is also a lot easier to criticize than to actually do it.

So everything you read on the internet is a fact, huh? You do realize The Onion is satire, right? No? And this is why writing things in one's own words is far better than copy and pasting someone else's.

If you had done any kind of follow up to your "research", or even wondered for a second that why your source material references rabbits, owl's and mice being fit with spectacles an thought, hmm that sounds suspicious. Maybe then you wouldn't have posted such a ridiculous article. Did you even read the article?

Retirees can buy Warby Parker designer glasses for under $50 with UnitedHealth's Medicare plan

    • UnitedHealth says it will offer about 2 million of its Medicare Advantage beneficiaries access to Warby Parker's prescription eyewear.
    • A $95 pair of designer prescription sunglasses from Warby Parker could cost less than $50 under a Medicare Advantage plan, according to UnitedHealth.

Some retirees won't have to sacrifice fashion for affordability when buying their next pair of prescription glasses.
UnitedHealth, the largest U.S. health insurer, announced on Monday it will offer about 2 million people enrolled in its Medicare Advantage plans access to Warby Parker's prescription eyewear online and at more than 80 stores stores for little- to no out-of-pocket cost.

A $95 pair of designer prescription sunglasses from Warby Parker could cost a person less than $50 under a Medicare Advantage plan, according to UnitedHealth.

"We know baby boomers are looking for a more convenient and personalized health care experience, and we believe they will find Warby Parker's innovative model both appealing and affordable as they shop for eyewear," John Ryan, general manager of UnitedHealthcare Vision, said in a statement.

UnitedHealth has offered other enticing perks to consumers. Earlier this month, UnitedHealth said members whose employers opt in to the "Motion" program can access an Apple Watch Series 3 for the cost of tax and shipping alone.
UnitedHealth said Monday's announcement marks the first time Warby Parker is accepting Medicare insurance, and expands on its year-long relationship with the designer eyewear maker.

Last year, UnitedHealth said employer-sponsored and individual vision plans can access Warby Parker eyewear at a lower price.
UnitedHealth, with a market cap of more than $254 billion, has seen its shares rise more than 20 percent so far this year. Shares were trading more than 2 percent lower early afternoon Monday.

Repeating the same garbage, or in this case outright lies, over and over doesn't make them any more true.

You seem to want to be taken seriously - while also constantly trying to drive clicks and traffic to your own sites, using Optiboard as your own personal platform to do so. So some friendly advice here: Give it a rest.
