    Prescription for distance viewing

I do not see at a distance quite as clearly as I would like with my current prescription. I find that when I push the lenses of my glasses closer to my eyes (maybe about half an inch closer), I can see the lettering of street signs that are a block or two away more clearly than when I wear the glasses normally. Which ingredient or ingredients of the prescription, SPH, CYL or AXIS, are being affected when I press the lenses closer to my eyes? SPH? And in what direction? If 2.00 is added to SPH to get the prescription for reading glasses, would subtracting 1 from SPH make it possible to see letters on a street sign a little more clearly?

    The prescription:

    O.D. (right) SPH: -6.25 CYL: -0.75 x 15 (AXIS)
    O.S. (left) SPH: -4.00 CYL: -2.50 x 04 (AXIS)
    pd 64

    Thanks.

    Distance

P.S. I should make clear that I am not asking for a guess from afar about how the prescription should be revised. I just want to get a better understanding of what factor is being affected when I push the lenses closer to my eyes.

You crave more minus which you get when you push them closer.

Will you tolerate that over time is probably no, which is why you're refractionist backed it down.

Add a number (pick one between one and a hundred) if you think that will help for an on line pair.

Thanks for your reply. Why do you mean when you suggest that I would not tolerate more minus over time? Do you mean that I would have a physical problem, or that I would disconcerted by the affect on seeing closer objects, or something else? Also, by "more minus" are you referring to an increase in the SPH number, e.g., -7.25 instead of -6.25? Muchas gracias.
