Blue Jumper EyeMed versus VSP ................................

EyeMed (Essilor-Luxottica owned) has 78,000 providers and

VSP offers a national network of 31,000 private practice doctors.

I had not the faintest idea that EyeMed is more than twice as 2x large in lab work providers) as VSP when I looked up the information over the weekend.

    Company Overview

EyeMed Vision Care, LLC provides vision benefits programs to Fortune 500 companies, state and local municipalities, unions, and employer groups across the United States. It offers vision wellness plans to improve the vision of its members and their dependents. The company offers its programs through sales and service representatives.
EyeMed Vision Care, LLC was formerly known as LensCrafters Vision Care Management Systems. The company was founded in 1988 and is based in Mason, Ohio. EyeMed Vision Care, LLC operates as a subsidiary of Luxottica Group SpA.
while VSP has the following information:

    Company Overview

    VSP Global

    Company Profile
    Sector: Health Care

    Sub-Industry: Health Care Supplies

Blue Jumper *15K+ pairs of lenses made per day* ...........................

    https://vspglobal.com

    They claim on their website,

*15K+ pairs of lenses made per day*

....................that would result into a 5 day weekly production of 75,000 pairs of lenses, or 37,500 pairs of glasses. That is a huge amount of production.

Redhot Jumper It makes sense, that Zeiss, a year ago, has made an entrance into VSP................

..................now that Essilor-Luxottica is in charge of EyeMed, and mainly under Essilor guidance, their lens turnover will dramatically increase, if the company has been buying them from their competitors.

It makes sense, that Zeiss, a year ago, has made an entrance into VSP as a supplier of lenses, and have placed their logo on the special VSP website for exclusive discounts to members, for Zeiss lenses, at:

    http://premiumoffers.zeiss.com/wp-co...Pad_0122-1.pdf

    see on that site

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: This consumer mail-in rebate is valid only with the purchase of a pair of ZEISS Precision Pure, Plus, Superb, Individual 2, EnergizeMe SV, EnergizeMe Digital Lens, EnergizeMe Progressive, DriveSafe SV, DriveSafe Individual SV, DriveSafe Individual Progressive (“Lens”) branded ophthalmic prescription lenses from an eligible VSP Premier Program location made by a VSP member between February 15, 2018 and July 31, 2018…………………………..

Well, this is not surprising to me, Eyemed is far more used throughout the nation at retail chains. (ie:LensCrafters)

And this does explain Zeiss' recent involvement with VSP, I'm sure we shall see more alliances made throughout the industry.

....................The huge Zeiss Corporation and its eyeglass division seems to have had a rude wake up call that was effective.

As they were the only ones in the optical trade with a worldwide distribution net only a few years back, it looks like that they have finally woken up.

    Zeiss, Revenue‎: ‎Approx. EUR 5.3 billion (fiscal year ...
    $ 6,011,424,300.00 United States Dollars
    Industry‎: ‎Optical and optoelectronic
    Employees‎: ‎Approx. 27,000

Essilor-Luxottica operates now the largest block of 10 online of Optical retailers, under different names.

How long will it be until Zeiss will be joining the optical online retail club ?

The OD's sold their souls to the devil when they embraced managed care to maintain patient base knowing the medical money was where future profits lay and did not want to loose out.

drk put it best when he posted that when many independent OD's accepted EM & VSP they didn't realize the full extant to which changing rules by managed care basically made them totally dependent on them; so OD's left the independents to deeply discount to private pay patients (at least if you play by the rules). Slowly but surely the tail wagged the dog until today, when the tail is the dog and the OD is an afterthought.

That global corporations are continuing to vertically integrate should surprise no one.

.....................they are already listed in Wikipedia as a part of vertical integration by Luxottica.

This brings them under general management by Essilor.
