    ABO-AC Study Book

I am hoping to take the advanced exam next May. From what I have already read, the textbook/study guide is $200! Surely there must be more than one?

    https://www.nao.org/product/aot/

Whilst I know this is a necessary expense in any exam situation, how useful is it? Is the text up to date? Or would I be wasting my money? Also, keen to hear from anyone that is also planning to take the exam.

    Thanks!

Pip-pip old bean. The cost to become an OD might run well over $100,000.00 and you cant spare $200.00 to buy a stinkin book. No wonder opticianry is sucking hind teat.

    1. Join the NAO. The book is only $120. The NAO is (imho) is the most worthy of our national Opticianry orgs when it comes to joining.
    2. Yes worth it, but you won’t pass the test with it as your only study material. It’s revenant and relates to the test.

Get a good formula’s book like Optical Formula Tutorial. Everyone should have a current edition of System for Ophthalmic Dispensing. I would recommend brushing up on path. I remember more than I would expect for an Optician proficiency test.

Good luck and welcome to OB!

I have that book and plan on taking the test also, but we have been rolling busier and busier its been hard to study and stay sane.

It is a very thorough text. Systems is a must also, I use that book all the time.

    Thanks for the replies..
has anyone on here taken the exam in the last year? Hearing conflicting information about the content. On the ABO/NCLE website, they state the layout of the exam - I have also heard that it contains a lot of practice/business management/p&L questions.

I already have the principles textbook which is a relief so I guess I just need the previously mentioned one from the NAO website

    Thanks again folks.
