Hey all. The optician I apprenticed under did mention that it was possible to widen/resize the bridge on an acetate frame to get a few extra mm. Is there a specific technique or tool that does this? Thanks.

Rarely used though. Spend your tool budget elsewhere.
Hope this helps,

Good tool to have just to give the job that extra special touch, but not needed if you chose the right frame to begin with.
Always telling the pt that if it don't feel good to start with choose another.
Robert posted the bridge narrowing pliers, there once upon a time was also a bridge widening pliers. In a quick search it looks like you might be able to still get a pair from AIT for $45. I've never had need of them and most frames today probably wouldn't handle it well. But, I have done many a nasal cut or nasal fill as needed.
Remember when real frames came in real sizes. You could get a given frame in 58-14-150 or 44-24-125 or any combination in between. Didn't need no stinkin bridge adjusting pliers.
You could also change the shape of a frame in the real old days to fit an extra wide nose. Never needed a bridge stretcher.
These are bridge reducing pliers from long ago and not to be used by the uninitiated!!!
sorry- can't get the pic to download. Roberts pliers is an expanding pliers.

Hey guys, I posted examples/links to both types of pliers.
Yup. I don't let my clients pick their own frames. Left to their own devices, they inevitably choose poor fitting frames that makes them look older.
