    Photochromatic frames

Has anyone had a chance to try the photochromatic frames ? I've only seen pictures of them, and when I call the company, the rep/owner/spokesperson didn't speak English well enough to explain the product, or arrange for me to buy a sample.

-What colors do they change to/from.

-Do you know how long the changability lasts ?

-Is this just a cheesy gimmick, like Splitz, or do you think there may be a market for something like this ?

    Just wondering...

Believe or not! The company produce resin for photochromatic frames is in the United States. It comes in many colors.

Any frame company deals with injection should know about this and it is not expensive.

    Hello Robert,

Please contact tronform Industry at: tronform@hkstar.com
    or fax to: 011-852-2408-7723

They specialize in plastic injection and they should have what you are looking for + frame grow light in the dark.

    Good Luck!

Here's the deal on these lenses

They are called Drivewear lenses from Younger. They react to Visible light, not UV. They, actually, change to different colors, according to the visible light there is.

For instance, if its an overcast day with low light, they are a greenish yellow. In normal daylight, behind a car window, they turn to a copper color. In bright light, outside conditions, they are a dark reddish brown color.

These lenses will be announced at the convention in Las Vegas and be ready to be sold soon there after.

We were one of the test labs that have been trying them on over 1200 people.

Did I miss something ?? The first post is regarding photochromic frames, not lenses.

    Uhoh

If that's the case, then I apologize. I made the assumption that you were talking about lenses.

By the way, the lenses I spoke about are also Polarized

Are photochromatic frames something the world really needs or wants? I suspect that this will be as successfull as the frames that had a little spot on the temple where perfume could be applied.

We've been selling them for over a year now, found them at MIDO in 2005

There are styles for adults, but the main sellars are the kiddies models.
The frames are Xtal Clear in ordinary room light but in the sunlight (depending on the model) they change to blue, red and green.

Kids love them, and of course once one kid in the class has them........... you know the rest of the story.

They used to show their photochromic or "Transitions" frames on their website.

Now they are revising the website, so it is only good for contact information.

Actually this kind of innovations have started 10 years ago but not in optical line. The 1st product as i know they started at is WATCH, so now they apply on frame. This just a new selling points to new and young wearer, it really not practical and useful at all.

We did have a kit of those frames in my office they were called Softlites
and the colors were lavender charcoal aqua misty green carmel and coral
the concept was cool but did not go over really well. They were a total rimless to boot so only the temples changed and bridge:)

Someone, maybe me, should get with Jerry Huang when he returns from China. These could be injection molded fairly easily.
