    Painting a metal frame

My husband has a semi rimless frame that he likes a lot and would like a blue version. I've tried painting one with Testors enamel (model airplane paint), but it comes off really easily where he handles it. (And, I'm so sad to say, on the bridge when the frame rests face down on his nightstand. I know, I know! I just can't break him of the habit!) I've gone over the frame with steel wool before I paint it. Does anyone have a solution?

Powder coating seems to work the best.

...................the preparation of the surface to be painted is the secret. Steel wool is way to rough to make a good surface preparation.

Remove the lenses from the frame. Use some very fine sandpaper to make a finally even surface and clean it of all dirt and grease with a solvent before painting with a metal primer. Let is dry and then paint the final color coat over it.
That will give you a more permanent result.

In today's age of the internet you easily find instructions on how to prepare metal surfaces for painting.
