    Rx from Germany

Ok I have kind of a dumb question, but any info would be great.....my sister in law is getting a German exchange student by this weekend. The girl is worried about having glasses. I told her to bring her spares and a copy of rx. I have filled a lot of rxs from other countries, but don't recall Germany. Do they look the same as America???? I am just trying to ease the worries of a teenager.... I am sure I can help her if anything were to happen, but I am trying to learn upfront to avoid any problems..

    Thanks!!

Prescriptions for eyeglasses are the same all over the world, sphere/cyl/axis, + addition, PD can be measured anytime. No special regulations, if you have done advanced studies you can refract, become an Optometrist, and and write your own prescriptions.

I also became trilingual during my years of learning. If you learn the trade in Europe your certifications are accepted just about world wide with the exception of North America where the different local States each have their own rules.

Danke, Chris....my sister in law's exchange student is happy! I was pretty sure rxs were universal as I have filled quite a few from different countries over the years. The kid said she would have me fluent before she returned to Germany yay me!!!! Since I already know how to refract, but can't do in in America, I may go back with her!!! HA!!!

It's the same, they label spherical as "Sph", cylinder as "zyl", and axis as "ach"
