I believe "Kate Spade" the brand was purchased by the company the outright owns "Coach" mid last year.

I doubt Kate Spades brand will cease to exist just because she has passed.

    RIP though.

Yes, Tapestry, Inc. now owns Kate Spade and Coach. But for eyewear, Safilo licenses the Kate Spade brand and Coach is licensed by Essilux

This will have no effect whatsoever on Kate Spade eyewear. She was not personally involved in the designs. Almost no brand-name designers have anything whatsoever to do with the eyewear that bears their name.

I believe that the first "designer eyewear" line was Diane von Fürstenberg licensed by American Optical back in the early sixties. She was at a MARDO meeting showing the frames and was asked if she had actually designed the frames. She declined to answer but the word was out that the frames had been designed in-house at AO and she was seeing them for the fiirst time.

The expression "give me a break" was first uttered at this meeting. No one at that meeting thought that "designer eyewear" would fly.

Never has this silliness been clearer than when Lux picked up the Coach imprint and Marchon took a bunch of their best-selling old Coach designs, re-labeled them as Nine West, and lowered the price 30%.

    Very sad.

Kate spade name had changed hands 3 times i believe in the last ten years.
Also keep in mind Louis Vuitton Malletier died in 1895, and his brand lives on.

And Lux used their old Chanel frames for the Coach line, at about a 30% drop also.
