The short answer is you don't verify the top portion of the lens. The long answer is it would be complete luck to match up the compensated distance rx to any part of the lens. Assuming that the lens was fit using the manufacturer recommendations, 10 mm between the fitting cross and the top of the frame, the area of distance is so small you would never get it centered to verify without running into the frame.

here) is to only verify the reading (total reading power, not just the add and in your case I would use the compensated powers, both add and distance, when doing the calculation for the total reading power), which is what I've been told do by several lens manufacturers in that segment.
