    Shamir Duo

I noticed in another thread a few people recommending the Shamir Duo lens as a way to get 1.67 Trans for a bifocal wearer. I was wondering how successful people were in dispensing the Duo lens. I honestly only ever tried a couple when the lens was first released and the feedback wasn't good at all. Just looking for some opinions here.

I've only fitted a handful of them; I've only run into one complaint from someone for whom I wasn't the fitter/dispenser. My ST bifocal wearers have done well with Shamir Duo, mostly recommended for sunglasses w/ mirror coat, because they understood that there were still two distinct focal zones. A little bit of guidance in-office, with the lenses on, was all they needed.
The one complaint came from a patient who had been accustomed to wearing PALs and was not given advice to help him form expectations about this type of lens. I just restyled him back into a PAL after YEARS of putting up with those lenses. He missed his arms' length focal area and didn't understand why there were so many blurry spots. Clearly he wasn't given a choice about the type of lens he would be receiving.

I use the Duo mainly for PAL nonadapts and those too self-conscious for a line. It is a great option for youngsters who need a temporary multifocal as well.

Never though about it being an option for mirrors... I will have to keep that in mind.

I fit it low. But I'm kind of notorious for that. I fit the Duo and power-boost lenses lower than regular PALs though.

I know you are. But in this case I might agree with you because much like an old school set PAL design the DUO has no flexibility in its corridor!

How low? I always feel it looks very high when I fit it the way Shamir tells me too.

Bottom of pupil or maaaybe 1mm lower. So far, so good on dispensing at that height.
