Surfacing and Finishing Training

Does anyone know if there are any online training courses, books, or manuals for surfacing and finishing ophthalmic lenses?

If you go to YouTube and search for "ophthalmic lens surfacing" or "ophthalmic lens production" you will find a whole bunch of videos.

The Optician Works videos by Laramy-K are a great place to start. Other than that, it's more of a hands on training kind of industry.

You can always ask specific questions on here and plenty of techs will be happy to tell you how they do it!



I also wanted to add that the processing is quite dependent on the type of machinery used, so it is probably quite difficult to find information on generic methods though you could look up machine manuals which would flesh out each step of processing.

It's really a hands-on thing. I can't imagine that online courses could be anything but extremely limiting.
